7:02 pm - Competition tomorrow

Tomorrow is the PNMB's last qualifying show!! Wish us luck! We did really well at the last competition but got a crappy score because the judges were really tough. I just hope we can do well enough to make it in states. We're so close. Well, we're in 12th, but the scores aren't terribly far apart. Any other Michigan bands who're competing in MCBA going to the Reeths-Puffer show tomorrow? If so we'll see you there! Good luck to all bands competing in any competitions tomorrow!

7:27 pm - Band Camp

These past two days have been pre-band camp where we teach the freshmen how to march and such. It's been really fun. I love my section. We have a new sophomore, two freshmen, and two eighth graders who are in it this year. The only other vet in our section (besides me) is another sophomore. So our oldest grade is sophomores. lol. Anyway, tomorrow is a pre-camp rehearsal for the full band and all next week is band camp!!!!!!! SO FUN!!!!!! I'm super excited. WOO BAND!!!! lol. I'm a major geek. :-)

9:46 pm - Drum Corps International

Tonight I went to see the DCI show at WMU's Waldo Stadium. It was absolutely fantastic. My favorites were probably Blue Devils, Bluecoats, Blue Stars, and JSU Spirit. They were all really, really good though. These are the corps we saw in order of performance:
Racine Scouts from Racine, Wis.
Memphis Sound from Collierville, Tenn.
Blue Stars from LaCrosse, Wis.
Pioneer from Milwaukee, Wis.
The Magic from Orlando, Fla.
Southwind from Lexington, Ky.
Spirit from JSU from Jacksonville, Ala.
Blue Devils from Concord, Calif.
Bluecoats from Canton, Ohio

That was a lot of fun. It was raining pretty much the whole time though. But we toughed it out, we had a marching band competition last year in which we had to perform through sleet. That sucked. But anyway, the corps were all wonderful and we had a great time.

I found out that I made marching band student leader for our 2005 season. I'm a sophomore, and I'm going to be the flute student leader. Not much else to report, just thought I'd mention it.

Hello. :) My name's Nikki.

I live in a small city that goes by the name of Center Line. If you don't know where that is, think Warren. It's like, this little 1.4 square mile city smack dab in the middle of it. I'm fourteen, going into my sophomore year.

I play flute, and I'm finally moving up into concert/marching band. I can also play a little bit of alto sax. And I've been known to be kind of a drummer. (I've attended more drum practices than half of the percussion section. >.> If you're curious as to why. They're after school and I have a tendency to just hang out in the band room. So I was just kind of... there. And the drummers made me do drills. o_O)

I don't really have a favorite piece of music, but I do happen to really like a certain flute trio called Allegro. My friend Keith left it at my house one night. It was pretty amusing. I played it with him and his friend in the middle of the night at mi casa. I played with two boys and they were WAAAAAY better than me. It was odd, but it's okay. They're both 2-3 years older than me.

Nice meeting you all. I hope to hear more from fellow band people.

Hello everyone. I did not know this community existed! I am Samm, founder of micompbands, and [now] a senior at Ferndale High School, in Ferndale, district IV.

I play oboe/english horn in wind ensemble/orchestra winds/pit orchestra, some clarinet for pit orchestra, bass guitar in jazz band and for one winter season of drumline, and percussion [marching bass one] for drumline and marching band.

I do not have one favorite piece of music... just about anything by Ticheli is amazing, although right now I really like Rocky Point Holiday as well.

Hopefully that is everything!

How many of you live in Michigan?! (sees hands raised)

Alright, well then! This is for you! Channel 7 News chose 3 bands from the Tri-County Area (Macomb County, Oakland County, and Wayne County) to perform at Campus Martuis Park for a band competition. We will be playing during the 5 am and 7 am news slots. Our band, East Detroit High School Shamrock Marching Band, will be getting up dark and early! Yes...I said dark! 2 am! We must be at the school ready to depart, full uniform, music, and such by 3 am! Anyway. This is a "Battle of the Bands" type competition! You, the viewers and citizens of Michigan, must call in a vote! Of course you may vote for another band, but it would be GREATLY appreciated if you could vote for the East Detroit High School Shamrock Marching Band!!!!! Thank you in advance! The Shamrocks really appreciate it!

x-posted to my own journal.

My grandma was being a parasite again, so I had to wait an hour to post this. In the meantime, I watched the birds and bunnies in the yard and practiced cornet. A good waste of my damned morning. Anyhow, I'm still giddy!

7:58 pm - A little introduction....

I'm 16, I go to Redford Union High School (affectionately referred to as R.U. High,) I play trumpet, and my name's Christine.

My favorite piece of music is John Barnes Chance's Variations on a Korean Folk Song. We played it in symphonic band last year, and even though I had difficulty playing it, it was still an awesome song...I would LOVE to do it for our show next year, but it's not going to happen.

I'm excited about the upcoming season, and the summer...I'm going to an invitational only type workshop at MSU-well you learn the show there, and perform at U. of M.-but it's going to rock. It's from July 21-23, and I have to say, I'm looking forward to it. :).

I feel special, but I should have known it'd be ok, because I was section leader in the band, and I get really pumped about marching band, I'm just less excited about class band...lol.

6:02 pm - Hello all!

Hullo! My name is Jayme. I'm a 16 year old sophomore at River Valley High School (that's in Three Oaks) and I play pretty much any wind, but my main instrument is the tenor sax. :D My favorite piece to perform is Pomp And Circumstance. It's a great piece and each time it's played more memories are attached to it.

I just joined and thought I'd better intro myself! :D

Yes, I smile a lot.

e*d*i*t ---> I forgot to mention I have the original 9/11 commemorance saxophone! And yes, it is red, white, and blue. (And very dented right now). I get a lot of stares... :P

Why I'm a woodwind traitor:
My grandma went through my room while I was gone and completely and utterly destroyed my saxophone reed. State Festival is in three days. We're playing on Friday, at 7 pm. Anyone else going?

That's not the only reason I'm a woodwind traitor, I s'pose. Also, could I get the instruments and locations of the folks here? Thanks.
